Eventually they deteriorate and/or rust out. Luckily, replacing a commercial door threshold is not a labor intensive or difficult job!
Typically, a threshold is “Lagged” down into the concrete with some special screws to prevent it from shifting and moving underneath the foot traffic. When these screws loosen up or the metal starts to break down, you will often times HEAR the threshold making noise, which should alert you to the fact it’s time fro a new one.
